Platform funded to deliver support and advocacy for International Protection Applicants

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth have awarded the Intercultural Platform funds to deliver a support and advocacy service for people living in the County who have applied for asylum here. Referred to as International Protection Applicants, there are over 600 people living in a variety of accommodation centres and facilities in Letterkenny and Ballybofey, many of whom need assistance to navigate their application processes, complete forms and complete questionnaires. We are very please to have been chosen to undertake this work and we are looking forward to commencing early in the new year. (2023)

SUPPORTING UKRAINIAN REFUGEES

The Platform has been helping to coordinate supports and services for the recently arrived refugees from Ukraine. We are active members of the Donegal Community Response Forum, we are outreaching to host families, providing English Language conversational sessions and supporting the building of relationships between people.

TUSLA and the Children & Young Person’s Services Committee (CYPSC) have asked us to establish a Child and Family Support service for the Ukrainians, hopefully offering a drop-in space in Letterkenny and outreach to the various accommodation locations across Donegal. We are also interested in supporting Ukrainian refugees living with host families and in identifying summer activity opportunities for the Ukrainian young people and other refugees across the county.  If you would like to offer to volunteer to support this work please call 086 084 1433 or email: paul.coord@interculturaldonegal.org
