EU BELONG PROJECT
The project supported the adoption of innovative and pioneering regional inclusion strategies, based on a multi-level and multi-stakeholder framework that, for the first time, applies the intercultural approach to Regions as a key-player for the successful inclusion of TCNs.
It will strengthened the capacity of 11 European Regions and their cooperation with local authorities and other public and private stakeholders to design and adopt regional integration strategies with the aim of designing and adopting regional inclusion strategies able to encompass different aspects of the socio-economic inclusion of TCNs, especially those in vulnerable situations (women, children and victims of discrimination). At the close of the final meeting a Europe-Wide Intercultural Network was established and the Intercultural Platform is an active part of that new Intercultural Regions Network (Regions Forum’s programme )
CARA Donegal Project
Under the terms of the EU Belong initiative the Intercultural Platform has delivered a Training and Development programme called Community Anti-Racism Actions – CARA. The project aimed to inform, engage and strengthen intercultural understanding and build capacity at local community level to counter racist narratives and the promotion of hate. The project is detailed under our ‘Anti-Racism / Training’ tab on this website. The project was really successful, engaged 11 community organisations across the county of Donegal and ran from January to July 2024 led by our Community Links Worker Nolunga Shologu.
Supporting Unaccompanied Minors (Young Refugees and Asylum Seekers)
The Intercultural Platform has recently linked with two well-established partner organisations in France (ActForRef) and Austria (Patinnen für Alle) to develop a support project for young refugees, migrants and asylum seekers. This is a new departure for the Platform, but as our migrant and refugee youth population grows and the numbers of unaccompanied minors also grows we believe we have a responsibility to develop an intercultural community work-led approach to supporting and including young refugees. EU Belong Project (completed July 2024)
The expected impact of the project is to improve migrants’ socio-economic inclusion and sense of belonging through the development of Regional inclusion strategies based on a strong intercultural approach. In particular, the project will strengthen the capacity of 11 European Regions and their cooperation with public and private stakeholders, thus durably supporting their role as key-players for the successful inclusion of Third Country Nationals (TNCs). EU Belong runs from January 2022 to December 2024. The Donegal participants are Donegal Intercultural Platform (Advisory Committee member) and Project partner – Donegal County Council.
